ABOUT
Dr. Kristin Wingfield is a board certified primary care sports medicine specialist who sees all types of athletic injuries, including acute and overuse, in all age groups, children to masters. Her patients are weekend warriors, active people, recreational to elite athletes, dancers and performing artists. She enjoys using her extensive experience in elite sports to help others recover from their injuries and get back to the activities they love as quickly as possible. She believes in active recovery and guides patients with close monitoring and return to sport protocols.
Dr. Wingfield herself was an elite gymnast on the Canadian gymnastics team, an elite Canadian springboard diver, and a professional acrobat in Cirque Du Soleil. She performed in Mystere before and during medical school and residency training.
Dr. Wingfield received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario in honors Kinesiology, and continued with her medical training at University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, from which she received her M.D. degree. She then completed her Family Medicine Residency at Saint Paul’s Hospital Site at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. In 2004, Dr Wingfield completed the Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Stanford University.
Dr. Wingfield is also currently the medical director of the Wellness Center of the San Francisco Ballet. She worked for many years as a team physician to Team TWENTY24 women’s professional cycling team. She has traveled as a team physician for the Canadian Alpine ski team to World Cup ski races, as well as with the Canadian Women’s basketball team. She was the team physician for Canada at the FINA World championships in 2003 in Barcelona, and she worked with the Canadian medical team at the Sydney Olympic Games as a medical student.
In 2023 she was elected to the World Aquatics (previously FINA) Sports Medicine Committee, which oversees sports medicine coverage and issues internationally in all aquatic sports - swimming, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming, waterpolo and high diving. She recently traveled to Doha, Qatar, for the World Aquatics Championships and will be working at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in this capacity.
